Well actually I read the book at school (not as an assignment), but it was actually rather good. In fact I'm certain the book came first. It was a really dark book, with murder, affairs (well cheating in a relationship), and lust. Though of course Disney can't show some of the contents from the book back then because well it was directed to a kid audience (If I am not mistaken), but they did capture how Quasimodo was treated by Frollo, how Frollo lusted Esmeralda, and more. I recommend reading the book before saying the movie is better, because in cases of reality the book is better than the movie.

Yer it was a...odd choice for Disney to Adapt, and whilst they water it down (most animated films end up watering things down) it still captures some of the themes. And saying the novel is "horrible" in that way...um...its kind of the point.

As for watering stuff down Disney have done that to most fairy tales they adapted.

Cinderella's stepsister are originally blinded by crows...and the little mermaid turns to foam after the Prince marries someone else. But it is for good reasons they change things due to there target audience: Families and crows picking eyes out...well...that's family fun right?

Also saw Maleficent the other day. I liked it. I can see why others didn't like it.

when I first herd about the film I thought This is gonna just dive and fail hard!then I saw the trailer and thought it looked a lot better than I expected, then after seeing some reviews i felt disappointed, (I don't normally trust reviews as films are subjective but I mean I was kinda mad on hearing Maleficent is "misunderstood") But then I saw one review saying "It is a good RETELLING off the story, and that's the mind set that I took into the cinema, it was a retelling and not something to be added to the Disney cannon :-P

and Yup I did like it, I can see why others were less pleased with it and personally I would of liked more evil from Maleficent but it was still good :-P

Oh, I didn't think they meant that kind of horrible. I thought they meant like it's a bad book. Yeah they have their reasons, which are reasonable to keep somethings out. Even though they did have eye peaking crows in the Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically 2 Dead man's chest). Though I guess it's not entirely for children.

I've found that USUALLY with Disney if it's live action it's terrible and if it's animated it's great. There are plenty of exceptions, but more often than not this is the case.

I know you said usually but I'm gonna call heresy anyway.

Disney is what it is though end of the day.

Indeed, they do stuff I love (2D animated films, the songs, theae parks and stuff) But they do stuff I hate too (dreadful sitcoms and spin-off Tv shows, awful Pop stars, and the fact they are re-making a live action Dumbo *bleep*s me off!)

There are annoying fans for every fandom. They can contribute to people disliking it, especially with examples like MLP and Twilight, but it mostly just comes down to different tastes.

I can't think of a single fandom that doesn't have a really obnoxious side to it. It's like I said to Erza in the AoT thread, I try to experience something before letting its fandom affect my desire to get into it.

I don't think it's the fans. Though I can see how it could be the fans if the case were just MLP and Twilight. But Twilight was bad, just in general it was bad. MLP has a fairly written story, just a strange as heck fandom. While Harry Potter has a good in both terms of series and fandom.

So really it's like people yelling a character design, they're being babies.

Well to be fair, i did kinda like the two first harry potter movies when it was about school and the charm of it
But i dunno, Disney had some great hits in the 90's with fun cartoons. I see the possibility, only difference is the quality.
