I think Cynder could be cool if they had written her better. I have nothing automatically against characters like her, but if there's not much else to them I won't be very interested.

I guess maybe part of her appeal is that her character isn't that complex, and that you can kind of make up stuff for her. Same with Ember. Could be part of why there was so much fanfiction and art about them.

and yeah. it's strange, they had a lot of character traits, but not a lot of *character*. they never really built on the two characters much. you don't actually know that much about them; it's like, Spyro feels kind of like a friend to me, in a manner of speaking, whereas Ember and Cynder feel more like people i see around, but have only had a couple conversations with.

I think you're right. Characters who are the lead character's love interest tend to lure certain fans when they have certain traits, but are left empty enough to play around with. I have been around this fandom for a long time now, and I've realized that every single person interprets both Cynder and Ember in very unique ways.

Then again, that also happens to Spyro... I think this rule just applies to kids games/shows (As i have seen many renditions of the MLP characters), since they make them simple.

Because Ember is almost as annoying as Pinkie Pie.
