I don't really think so. General Discussion seems to be a place to talk about personal current events, but whenever people want to talk about something else- music, history, etc., then they usually create a new topic.

I'm interested to see what you all think about this. I wonder if people would post new threads more often if it wasn't there. I feel like a lot of the topics people post about in there could easily be their own threads.

It took a lot of trolling and arguing, but it's finally under control and now we
have normal [Internet text-based] conversations in it. I feel like it's good
for conversations that people think aren't big/important enough for a full
thread. I agree that some small conversations became long enough that
they could have been a full thread, but some things aren't predictable.

And, in a way, it's a good place to chat in because there is no set topic, so
there is no need to get on to people for straying off topic.

A lot of it probably has to do with the small number of users, too.

As for the first four, I think they just kept getting closed because people were arguing or something.... I don't honestly remember.
