anyway this actually still happens to me once in awhile, i read a thread but it still shows up as "unread". i'll have to try what Story apparently told me four years ago and see what happens

I've noticed this happening to me too. I think I've figured out that if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, the thread will always be marked as read.
