It gives the creature a strong physical last-ability, but also allows for 'new cycles' of generations to grow and advance along with the passing centuries. And females generally live longer than males, since males, by nature (in most species), strive to defend their territories/ protect their families/ fight interlopers for sake of pride/ status etc, and so have a higher mortality rate.

Haha, basically, I'm thinking too hard about it.

The lifespan of dragons in games and fiction depend entirely on their creators. It's a shame the world-building for the Spyro games did not go more in-depth. But I guess the finer details are left for us (the audience) to make up our own minds on. Fair enough, I say. And if I was to take a guess at how long dragons can live in the Spyro universe, I'd put it between 900 - 1200 years old, depending on the elemental type, and possibly gender.

Hello everybody.
Read the posts on 'How long do dragons live'.
I recall Ignitus, mentioning one thousand years. (The Legend of Spyro: internet movie)
The passage went: "Every thousand years a purple dragon is born."
With this in mind, Ignitus is probably near or at this age. Dragons live about one thousand 'human years'.

paulf

The thing is, in spyro 3, during when the big dragon was telling spyro about the forgotten worlds, it shows the sorceress clearly vanishing that old dragon from Spyro 1, in the stone hill exit area.

Thats clearly the same dragon from "A ten thousand years ago" as put by sheila the kangaroo. (She said the sorcerous banished them over ten thousand years ago)/.

Edit: His name is Astor: http://retrospyro.wikkii.com/wiki/File:Astor.png

Wow there is a lot more on here than the last time I looked at this post. I guess I imagine the Dragons of Spyro being somewhat omnivorous with a preference towards meat. Like you all said though it's hard to tell.

I've seen various-abet fictional-sources stating that they live anywhere from 200 to 1,000 years. For my own fanfic i attempt to feel in the details not present in the games by looking at these kinds of source material. My dragons are omnivores, but that is meant only to make the presence of large dragon-populated cities seem more practical. I'm sure that once your get a sizable population of them, hunting alone becomes inpractical.

"Okay, Spyro, time for your dental appointment."
*AAAAHHHHH!*

I guess one good thing about writing a fanfiction is that you have the ability to
create your own ideas. Since we really don't know the lifespan of a dragon
(though animals before the Great Flood lived to be 800 to 900 years, and also
humans due to the low amount of sun radiation) you can make up your own.
