if Spyro hadn't seen the tree, the rest of the game wouldn't have happened. he needed to go see it so he could be abducted by the pirate fleet which led to him appearing at the Chronicler's place. that's why the Chronicler sent that vision to Spyro, because he wanted Spyro there to "ride out the storm, and live to fight [it] another day". if you want to go farther with it, after that, Spyro defeated Gaul, met up with Cynder, and everything else happened that ended up working out in the end. and it's all because Spyro went to see that tree.
