Yeah, that video would be a few years old by now, but based on the comments and what I remember, it showed Spyro standing right next to a tree or something, and when the camera moved, Spyro appeared to be a different distance from it.

Sheep wrote:

Why this happens is because of how the PS1 does 3d graphics. Instead of using a z-buffer like in N64 games, and most modern 3d graphics systems, the game developers had to sort the drawing order all the triangles based on the distance to the camera, back to front, and draw the whole of every triangle. It would be impossible to draw one triangle sticking into another one, and as I have tried to illustrate, the ground would obscure parts of Spyro even if he is clearly above it:

The distance to the green ground triangle is shorter than that to the triangles on Spyro's tail.
To counter this problem, they have given Spyro's triangles, and those of every other character or object in the game an offset to the depth, so that the sorting mechanism thinks that they are closer to the camera than they actually are.

wow, you know a lot about graphics

Yup. I guess that this is special technique used in spyro games. This make it possible to move spyro nearer walls than he could normally move. Because if he moved too close to the wall (without this effect), his head would partialy disappear in the wall, so to fix this they use this special effect to make it look better when spyro is near wall, but it is a little bit glitchy. I would like to learn how to do this technique, so I can use it in the fututre in my games
( another method they could use is to make spyro collision area larger, but it would be propably annoying in gameplay )
