It's not a significant change, no, but it's far from subtle.
The portal to the super bonus world was intended to be located on the unreachable Island and the super-whirlwind that transported you there would only be activated after you defeated the Sorceress.

I believe this is the statement Attackfrog277 is referring to, by senior artist Craig Stitt.

"A long time ago the portal to the Super Bonus Round was on that island.
The only way to get to that island was beat the Sorceress in the final
battle. Once you had done that a VERY VERY tall whirl wind would appear
in the room just outside the entrance to the final boss round. This
whirlwind would take you up high enough that you could glide ALL the way
out to that island. If I remember right it was like a 20 or 30 second
glide. It was very cool. I was actually the artist who modeled the level.

Unfortunately, the way vacations that year worked out, I needed to take
mine right before we shipped the game. When I came back I discovered
that the Super Bonus Portal had been moved MUCH closer and that the
super-whirl-wind had been removed (for unknown reasons). Unfortunately,
the artist who made all the changes (as per the programmer's and
designer's request) failed to remove the old island way off in the
distance. Same with the programmer who overlook removing the goodies
that had been placed there.

By the time I was back from vacation the game was done and out the door."

- https://tcrf.net/Spyro:_Year_of_the_Dra … ain_Island

That being said, I really like the idea of this concept, that long 20-30 second glide was amazing to get a glimpse at, thanx so much for this Yams.

...I still think someone should make a remake of Spyro 3, including this whirlwind, without translating the rest of the game, too. If someone made a hack which included the super-whirlwind, the Dino-Mines arena, the Proffessor's hidden dialogue, the secret cave in Fireworks factory and perhaps even more... Well, I don't know how I'd react.

Hi everybody!
I just want to show you a demo of the reconstructed super-whirlwind in Midnight Mountain Home. The whirlwind is NOT a result of any cheating. It was placed here by the proper game mod developed by the Kly_Men_COmpany. I am NOT the Kly_Men_COmpany. I'm just the author of this demo. BTW this is not for the original release, this is for Greatest Hits only.
