On each day, Hiroshima AND Nagasaki. I heard that combined, over 120,000 Japaniese men, woman, and children each were killed.

I remember getting nightmares, with that image of the little girls eye's melting away, stuck into my brain for two days. Didn't get any sleep at all.

Hideki Tojo was the Japanese general, while Hirohito was the emperor. The emperor did not want to lose any land to America, so he requested Tojo surrender. Unfortunately, Tojo was a stubborn idiot and continued to attack due to the old Code of Bushido, which said you could not surrender. He wanted Japan to die fighting rather than surrender.

Japan did not respond directly to the letter, however there were decoded messages that prove that they did, in fact, want to fight to the death. I do not know why they surrendered though after the second one. Maybe they thought that we had more than 2?

To start again, they WERE going to fight to the last man, like Hitler told his soldiers, but they wimped out. The Japaniese decided they would get back at the Germans later. They decided not to when the war ended. As for the nuclear explosion, well.....

To be fair, warnings were given to Japanese leaders of the impending atom bomb and which cities were going to be struck and when. The expectation was that the cities would be evacuated before the bomber would even be sent out.

Not that it was a good thing, but plenty of warning was given to Japan.
