I guess more of a cameo than a promotion, or perhaps a prologue. After that fall or the hard collision with the RARE logo, maybe he got two of his arms amputated, sued RARE and decided to work with Insomniac.

It has four legs; a pointy, protruding nose; and solid brown eyes with no pupils. So not exactly like Sparx.

I see the resemblance to Sparx, but with the limited graphics those games had, any dragonfly that happens to be yellow is going to look like Sparx. Probably just a coincidence. There's no reason I can think of for that company to promote another company's game that's not even on the same console.

I was remembering it as a firefly for some reason lol And yes he does look like him but only after the redesign so it can't be based on him.

I've seen a lot of characters that look like a Spyrro/Sparx kind of bunch. But
trust me, there's a very small chance that they are Spyro-related.

Maybe some early development information was shared between Rare and Insomniac? Maybe it's a very subtle promotion.

Probably not since that game was released in June. Spyro was released in September. Doubt they would have known about Sparx then.

Does anyone else know about the dragonfly that shows up in the opening animations? Is that some cross-platform Spyro reference? Despite the extra pair of arms, he looks a lot like Sparx.
