I haven't read the rest of the thread but,

Malefor lacked an insane amount of screentime. I'm pretty sure there are sensible details behind his conclusion of destroying the world (destroying the world to rid of its 'impurities' is a pretty common and accepted action of antagonists now), but it just didn't have enough explanation. To be honest, I am having a hard time accepting the fact that there is an insane lack of story from TEN, and they tried to develop it in DotD too quickly, and it ended up with a lot of gaping holes.

I'm pretty sure in the early comic's his family..wife and son or just a wife died by unknown reasons, he then fell into a chemical pot in a factory he worked at, I think he was a low level thief before falling in or after.

That would surly make him at some angle a tragic villain, however most tragic villains have a degree of remorse or sign of heart.

I recall that the backstory for the Joker is that he used to be just a normal criminal... until Batman cornered him and caused him to fall into a cylinder full of cheicals of some sort.

How Malefor goes about destroying Warfang and then trying to destroy the planet does seem odd. Maybe the backstory told in TEN is some sort of significance... and Cynder being transformed into an adult may have retain her true age for who knows how long. Blah blah blah...

Did the Joker really have a messed up childhood, or is that just assumed? I don't read any of the comics.
I learned it from The Dark Knight.

Heath Ledger's character made up those stories. That's why he tells two stories. One was in the clip I shared. Here's the other one:

He tells a completely different story. He's demented no doubt. But why? We don't really know according to the movie.

The comic's and the movie based always differ but have the same key point.

In the comics he is very much...more worse and creepy

I'm sure that if Spyro flew an F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, Malefor would have
been killed in a few seconds. But that's no fun for the game designer.

Actually the developers only had so much time to do the game that they rushed it. So they never got to explain the reason for why exactly Malefor wanted to destroy the world...I just find plot holes disappointing <.<
