I'll summarize that darkspyro.net has too few restrictions, which results in some out-of-control cases. On the other hand, this site has too many restrictions, which results in the discussion of little else but mundane topics. The variety of topics is restricted by the number of active users on this site anyhow.

I suppose the number of restrictions here is due to the rather pointless theme of creating a "family atmosphere". The community should be together as a family yes, but the restrictions pretty much limit discussion to things that a three-year-old cannot be offended on. I honestly think that this goal for "family-rated discussion" is a lost cause, as it achieves nothing. Reason being it's the people here that makes the difference - people here are already well-behaved, so pursuing a "family atmosphere" is unnecessary, and in fact a detriment to site traffic. No one likes huge arguments, but the emphasis on this cause (via rules like no political discussion) results in a docile atmosphere so tame as it is bland. This is honestly the reason why I faded away here.

I do wish best for the site to be more active, and I'd like the place to be more interesting, so the last thing I want is someone saying "if you don't like this site, leave". I actually want someone like SR take my case point by point just for, you know, acknowledgment on the issue. It'd be far nicer than someone making the former remark.

that's because of what i keep saying every time somebody brings this up and all the members keep ignoring:

people keep leaving because people keep leaving. membership starts to decline, so everyone else leaves too.

if people stick around for a while and wait for activity to build up from new members, the site will go back to normal.
