I don't mind that, as I love forest-like areas, but if you think about
physics, the round bbs will not fly straight. That's why cylindrical bullets
were invented along with rifled barrels. Because round ammunition will not
fly straight. So I never got the point in using an airsoft sniper rifle.

I can assure you airsoft snipers shoot straight enough to be accurate at very long ranges. At 200ft, my new rifle can shoot with groupings of 2-3 inches. I know round bbs are less accurate then cylindrical bullets, but there are so many other factors to take in that it doesn't matter.

Most sniper rifles come with an inner barrel called a "tightbore barrel". These barrels have 3 advantages over normal airsoft barrels.

First, the radius of the barrel is very small. Hence the word "tightbore". They're usually about 6.01mm to 6.03mm in radius, which give room for the normal 6mm BB. The reason why the barrels aren't exactly 6.00mm is because if there is a slight defect in the BB, then the gun will get jammed. Automatics don't have the precision to put a BB into a tightbore barrel, so that's why only spring and semi-auto snipers have them.

Second, the barrel went through a process of rifling, which means the inner barrel has slight carvings in a helix shape, which spin the BB longways to give it closer physics to a cylindrical bullet. Only metal tightbore barrels have this though, or at least I've never seen a plastic one with it (but to be fair I've never seen a plastic tightbore at all).

Lastly, tightbores are very long compared to many other airsoft barrels. This forces gravity and wind to have less effect on the BB during the first few moments the BB is in flight. An extra 2 inches actually goes a long way with a rifle.

But the barrel isn't the only thing. Because airsoft snipers have a very high FPS, they can use the higher weighted BBs. I got .30g BBs with my rifle, and they are alot more accurate then the .20g that I used on my cheap rifle.

Next time you go to a match, find someone who is using a rifle and ask if you could fire a shot or too.

Oh, yes. I looked at Google Images for the BAR-10, and saw that it looks
like one. But don't you think that an airsoft sniper rifle would be a bit
weird? You know ... airsoft guns are meant for shorter distances, and
sniper rifles are meant for great distances. It's a bit ironic.

I'm guessing you play in the city? I don't play CQBs. My friends and I play out in the forest.

Sniping is probably one of the most difficult, yet most boring positions to play in. The goal isn't to kill every other person, but to do that without being spotted. Sniping allows for a very quiet rifle and being able to take someone out in one shot. The problem is that once someone knows where you are, you're pretty much done.

This is the kind of airsoft I play:

We play in a 15 acre patch of forest. It's pretty useful to have a sniper in that area.

The main body and shoulder stock is pretty much an H&K G3. But the
short, oddly shaped horizontal grip and barrel are [as what it seems] an
original design. If the barrel were longer, I think it would cut off some
muzzle velocity instead of goving it accuracy, as it's already quite accurate.

I've been needing to fix the battery for my automatic. I have this gun
[Crosman Pulse R72] with a silencer and a high-quality LED light on
the left rail. The silencer dims the sound some, but is mainly to make the
barrel look longer instead of that short, stubby look of the stock gun.

That's because you've got a submachine gun there. Not an assault rifle.

Submachine guns are good for high rates of fire and wide spread, which is why your gun has a short barrel. The shorter the barrel, the more the BBs spread out.

Technically, you can get a tightbore barrel that's a bit longer and put it in your gun. But you would need to keep the silencer on (or the barrel could get damaged). That will keep the rate of fire high, but give you a tighter spread.

For the past 2 years they were cut from production (due to a lawsuit from Tokyo Marui), but they just started selling the rest of their unsold stock about a week and a half ago. I ordered one the second I could, because they are considered THE BEST rifle for under $200.

Have you guys done anything with airsoft since then?

When using airsoft guns meant for further ranged shooting, you should use
the heavier grade BBs. They fly straighter and further, and have a bit more
wind resistance. The SD96 looks like the best choice.

Don't worry, I plan on using .25 or .28 BBs (the heaviest allowed in games). But should I get the UTG or the TSD? They are both made from the same parts and body...
