Again I have yet to play LoS. So I don't know details of the storyline.

All I know is that there seems to be elements of deeper situations than "good vs. evil" in LoS than in the originals. Politics isn't good, but a flat good vs. evil cliche can sometimes be boring too. A good example of a good game that has poltical backstory is Jak 2.

Well I actually haven't played any of the LoS games yet, but I am aware of its darker and more cinematic storyline. I was simply saying that Ripto's Rage has the potential to contain a very complex storyline among the avalarians that can relate with the conflicts that arise in LoS, whatever they may be. RR has a potential to be a dark story in which the avalarians set aside their differences to benifit the common good of Avalar, a lesson learned if you wanna call it. Isomniac let Spyro take care of everything single-handedly. Perhaps a realistic more political approach to the RR storyline would not only be more believable, but more enjoyqable to watch unfold.

Amaranth kills Grand General Rufous and takes Sinopia. Amaranth kills the trust the people have amongst themselves, but he has not taken anything.....yet.

Don't worry, he has a greater agenda for all this besides making the lives of others miserable .

He walks in and takes things as well, it's just that his plans have steps to them instead of just winging it.

Amaranth's basically looks like a person who could be trusted with his bright smiles, cheery grins and candor. But his personality is cold and cruel behind false smiles. Basically like a Flytrap Plant that lures in unsuspecting insects with it's sweet smell and pretty colors to their painful and horrifying doom.
His species is lynx, and he has green eyes (which gives double meaning to when people call him The One With Gems For Eyes [the other meaning of course is for his greed].

riverhippo wrote:

lol, do they have to ride on each other's back?

You helped me realize the similarities between LoS and Ripto's Rage. With enough detail, Spyro 2's level personalities could have easily created an epic story. Too bad they didn't go that direction.

Similarities?? I'm not sure if I like the sound of that. Please explain.

As for epic story, a game/story/etc does not need to have detail for every little thing to make it epic, there's a little bad thing called overkill which makes it hard for people to enjoy the game/story/etc. when it occurs. Spyro 2 was fine in terms of the level npcs, I believe though that too much detail leaves too little for the imagination. If I ever got around to making a dialog script for this fangame's npcs, I'd try my best to leave some things for the player to think about rather than set everything in concrete.

If you can't use your imagination in a videogame, then why bother playing?

Not saying that more detail is a bad thing, but why complicate things when things already seem fine with it's simplicity?

As for the riding on the backs thing, I guess being carried around by the arms/whatever of the other player's character could work too. It's just that I planned for this to activate also a sort of Dual Attack kind of thing, where both characters will perform an attack that can only be done when they are together. But this idea is still in the works, so nothing is impossible.

Monotone Valley (homeworld) - A seemingly peaceful snow valley that was once a favored place for Sinopians to engage in Snowball Wars and Iceman Competitions. Something doesn't feel right here. Better watch your step...

Now recap back to Ripto's Rage where you were caught in between a "civil war" between the inhabitants of Zephyr and Breeze Harbor, this game is basically like that. You help the Sinopians fight, whether it's with each other or with Amaranth goons in exchange for information leading to the whereabouts of the dictator's generals, and ultimately, Amaranth himself.

The people in reality want to live without a dictator or anyone else governing them except for the appointed leader of their groups (similar to the way the Avalarians have lived amongst themselves before Ripto came along), and some will go out of their way to give Spyro an edge in boss battles, that is, if you can get them to like you. Spyro can fight bosses himself of course, but every player likes to have a little leeway, and with the help of some Sinopians, that frustrating boss battle may not seem so daunting after all.

To keep in ties with the the previous game (YoTD), Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, Bentley, Agent 9 and even Hunter will be available as playable characters for certain levels, but if there's another player with you, they'll always be available for co-op play. When there's 2 people, action buttons will be available to to let you pick up and carry another player, but certain conditions will be made to accommodate this such as:

Hunter rides on Spyro's back and hover is disabled for Spyro (due to Hunter's weight, lol.)

Spyro rides on Hunter's back and Hunter cannot use his bow and arrows (due to Spyro being in the way of his quiver)

The player riding can hop off at anytime, even in mid-air. Double jump for the erstwhile rider would not be disabled after this, but hover will. Oh yea, speaking of which, all the characters will be able to hover in their own way.

Hunter will spin his bow like a helicopter to gain extra height.
Agent 9 will point his blaster downwards and use the force of it to get higher.
Sheila will kick her legs in the air as a last resort for height.
etc etc

Will post more later but tell me what you think about this post.

Edit: Sorry for the double post. I figured it'd be better to keep this one and the last one separate to make it easier for people to follow.
