Perhaps this is a paradox right here, but... change is the only true constant in the world. You see, everything eventually changes. While wisdom itself is a very admirable trait, ingenuity and, again, unpredictability can tip the scales in their favor. Humans are very capable of ingenuity and unpredictability, which could mean that they had slain dragons due to said traits.

To address your other point, many cultures believe that dragons are indeed capable of magic. Asian mythology holds that their dragons, known as longs, are capable of flight even without wings, due to magic. They also believe that dragons are experienced shape-shifters, capable of morphing their shape with but a whim. Perhaps dragons do exist: if they do have shape-shifting powers, they could very well be in human guise, walking among us.

Merlin's magic was also incapable of doing any harm to dragons he faced; he was forced to use a blade. Merlin, the most accomplished magician/wizard, and a half-human half-incubus could not affect a dragon with his magic.

While the scales are a defense advantage, how do we know dragons are immune to magic? The feel BS to me. Heck, why does it matter when neither of them even -use- magic? I don't even think magic exists.

And if dragons were supposedly wise, they wouldn't be non-existent right now.

Ghakimx wrote:

To me, I think a griffin could would win in aerial melee combat. It has claws and what not to use as weapons.

Dragons have claws themselves. And, unfortunately for griffins, dragons have sharp fangs too: griffins have a beak.

I honestly have to go with a dragon on this one. Even if it can't breathe fire at some point it still has other advantages. Nigh-impenetrable scales for one, a very high immunity to magic, and most dragons are actually very wise creatures; wiser than humans at any rate. Humans like St. George merely had the advantage of unpredictability.

I also believe that they might be equally matched, even though a dragon has fire and a spiked tail, a griffin has more speed and can easily outrun a dragon. So honestly, my money is on neither.

I worry how you people can consider who would win in a fight between two fictional creatures, and assume features for both of them. Since dragons are less possible, I'd go for griffins. You know, they might actually fly.
