Is Spyro still Spyro no matter what he looks like or what the gameplay is like?
Ok well. A few people on other topics have been saying that they reckon Spyro is Spyro no matter what the gameplay is like or what he looks like. I don't really agree with that because i mean if they went and made some sort of violent Grand Theft Auto style with guns and stuff using Spyro in the game it wouldn't feel like Spyro then would it? And the same goes with how he looks. If they changed his look completly and even made him not even look like a dragon anymore then it wouldn't feel or look like Spyro would it?
So yeah thats what i reckon. What do the rest of you think

Re: Is Spyro still Spyro no matter what he looks like or what the gameplay is like?
I don't think Spyro is Spyro anymore. People who say that Spyro is Spyro no matter what his games are like are being weird. Spyro no longer exists to me. Now there is only some imposter running around. He is no longer Spyro, but a big purple mess.

Re: Is Spyro still Spyro no matter what he looks like or what the gameplay is like?
I take offense to what Juice box said...I personally think Spyro is still Spyro no matter what. Now if they change him completely then of course I would have a feeling he's not Spyro anymore. But I consider Spyro a purple dragon with four feet who breathes fire and has a yellow dragonfly named Sparx following him. As long as it's that, then it's still Spyro for me.

Re: Is Spyro still Spyro no matter what he looks like or what the gameplay is like?
I don't think you guys are weird. I do disagree though. I'm sure Ratchet will be along in a few minutes, if he hasn't already posted by the time I'm finished typing this.
The LoS is not a bad series. It is, however, a completely different game than the original 3. It took the emphasis off platforming and puzzle solving, and moved it to combat. Some platforming elements hung on, but those are really not central to gameplay. What they essentially did was put the character of Spyro into a completely different game, not to mention completey change the artistic direction of the series.
As for EtD and AHT, these two didn't really change the Spyro formula, they just did it very poorly.
So I guess it really depends on what you think defines a series. If it's the characters that make it up, then yeah, LoS is Spyro. But if you look deeper, and consider a franchise to be more than superficial details, but the atmosphere that the game creates and the nature of gameplay, then there is a definite cuttoff between the originals and LoS, for better or worse.

Okay Doppel^Dude there was barely anything about that post that was sane. It was almost as demented as: What do you do when you're paddling upstream in a canoo and the wheel falls off? Or when you pick a fight with a pineapple but you accidentally drop the soap? The answer is - Pandas don't eat cheese... :-|
