Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

The Eragon movie was disappointing. In the movie, it took them only days to reach Farthen Dur, when it actually took them several months. Eragon had brown hair and brown eyes in the book, was 15 and turned 16 in the book. Brom was killed by the Ra'zac. Everything else was good, but it took out Jeod, and they didn't meet Angela in Daret. I personally preferred the way Eragon killed Durza in the movie over the book though.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

That's because, unlike with the Harry Potter movies, the makers of the Eragon movie didn't bother to work with Christopher Paolini. If they do make an Eldest movie, and they work with him, maybe it can be saved from the travesty of what the Eragon movie had.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Honestly, I think the Eragon film was very true to the books. It plagiarized everything it could, used shallow characterization, and was full of bad writing, bad acting, bad set and costume design... I felt it was a perfect homage to the book but better because it took less time to endure (and Sapphira was adorable for those five minutes before she grew up and started talking). It even included some of the accidental porn (though none of the creepy stuff with Sapphira or Brom).

I hope the guy who directed Eragon isn't involved with the Spyro film just because I'd rather not have my favorite dragon associated with a series that makes me want to hit fantasy writers.

Eheh. In case no one's noticed, I am in the Anti-Shur'tugal camp. big_smile

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

...Razz...all that made no sence to me either because i am brain dead now, of my mind doent want to think that hard, but I am on my knees praying that this movie isnt going to be a failure and discrace Spyro. When the director and those guys messed up Eragon...I wanted to seek revenge...and painful revenge at that. But other then that, i think that they might acctualy try harder at makeing this film...at least i hope.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Given that Spyro is a near-decade-old, much beloved franchise, while Eragon was a bad Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Anne McCaffrey/etc knockoff, one can only hope that that will enforce some sort of quality control over the film.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Every piece of work uses something from other sources, and it's usually because they liked the idea and used it in homage of that piece of work.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

He started writing Eragon when he was about 15, same age as Eragon. You can't blame him for being inspired by previous writers, such as J.R.R. Tolkein.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

I can't blame him for being inspired. We all wrote bad fanfic when we were his age (or we will, in the case of some of you smile). I'm mad at him for having the nerve to say he's being original and for having his way paid into being published when thousands of authors who are actually good can't even get their manuscripts read. If his parents hadn't owned their own publishing company, you can be assured that Paolini would not be a published author now. Which would be good for him, because if he'd earned a rejection slip or two first, he might have had a chance at being a really good writer. But since everything has been handed to him, unless his parents start letting him see what many people are actually saying about his books, he's a lost cause.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Well then, I assume you haven't really been following what I've established in my fanfic I'm writing on DeviantART. I basically based my paladin off of the German legend, Siegfried, his ancestor. I'm actually quite proud of my work, but I'd like your honest opinion on it. You'll find it in my gallery.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

I honestly don't have the time to look at everyone's dA gallery. If you've got a link to the first part, I'll give it a look. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by cultural mythologies (Tolkien based a lot of his ideas in Norse mythology; I have an entire comic that's about the Egyptian gods and one of the main characters is a Lara Croft parody, etc). But what I'm saying is that Paolini goes too far and he shouldn't be getting away with what he's done. Following the hero's journey outline for your story is one thing, but ripping off almost completely someone else's epic story and saying it's yours is something else entirely.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Do you honest to goodness want my actual critique? Because I will treat your work the way I treat my own, and I am mercenary with my own writing. If not, I'll read and tell you what I liked and call it good, but if you really do want my critique, I'll let you know where I think you can improve (in a nice way; I believe in being honest, but being nice about it smile).

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

I want you to be perfectly honest. A writer can't improve if they don't know where to improve on.

I saw your critiques, and I edited the chapters according to what you had said, including a scene with the last male dragon falling.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

It's going to be by the people who did Eragon?!

Well, this movie is screwed. I'll save my money and go dig around in the bargain bins for it.

Re: Tiny pic from the Spyro movie

Hopefully he learned his lesson when the number of people coming to see Eragon in theaters dropped 70% the secong week.
