#1 General Chat » Apologies and Farewell » Mar 13, 2009 10:38 PM

First, I want to apologize to anyone I might have wounded with any harsh words I may have said. This past week has been terrible for many reasons, but that gives me no right to lash out at anyone. If I have upset any of you, I sincerely apologize.

Secondly, I am leaving. There's too much backbiting and strife in these forums and I can't handle it anymore. Those of you who have been my friends here over the years, thank you. Your support and friendship mean the world to me. I will not be here, but you can always find me on dA and Just for Faun.

I would like to request that none of my art be reposted here in the future. All of my work that is here already may stay but if you see anything new from me, please ask a mod to remove it.

Thank you all for your time. It's been swell. I wish you all the best.

Okay guys, I'm leaving these forums. If you have any questions for him, I will still be reading my PMs so just PM them to me or send me an e-mail. Keep checking Just for Faun as the full interview with him will be posted there in the future.

Scientifically speaking, why are you bringing up science in a game that involves stopping time and controlling the elements? big_smile The game and the official word about that crystal state that it was a created with a time fury. Spyro and Cynder were frozen in time, not ice or stone (though both of those had a part to play in the formation of the crystal).

Arg! It was just the change in art style! How many times do I have to say it? They did not physically grow at all. If they had, someone would have remarked upon it. If you paid any attention to the DotD site before they switched developers, you would have noticed that the "characters" section even showed off some of Krome's character designs, and guess what? Spyro and Cynder looked the same as they had in ANB and TEN.

Spyro and Cynder look older because EL changed the art style and that is literally the only reason.

They Spyro movie is currently in production. There won't be any ads for it until about a month or two before it's release.

#6 Re: Spyro Chat » What is Cynder's true element and, by extension, true colour? » Mar 12, 2009 11:39 PM

Razz

Oiy. I'll say it again.

Of the powers in Cynder's arsenal, only one is an actual element: wind. The other three (fear, poison, shadow) are not elements but just dark powers she acquired from the DM and her lifetime of living in his shadow. The Chronicler confirms that this is why she has extra powers, in fact.

So, Cynder is a wind dragon. In the three games, she's shown three different colors depending on where we see her.

ANB
Black in the cutscenes. Dusky gray in her concept art and in-game model.

TEN
Blue-gray in her official concept art. Dusky gray in her cutscenes and in-game model.

DotD
Varying shades of a deep, iridescent blue in all models and art.

Given that she is a wind dragon and that her egg in ANB was seen to be a dusky, stormcloud gray and that the most common color we see her with is that same dark gray, that is the color I think she is naturally. She's probably darker than she would have been had she not been raised by the DM's forces.

#7 Re: Spyro Chat » Sparx's Distrust of Cynder » Mar 12, 2009 11:35 PM

Sparx had really good reasons not to trust Cynder. She did, in fact, try to kill him more than once (and she did attack him in particular in one scene in ANB). I don't blame him for not trusting or liking her. It made the moment where he finally decided to be her friend in DotD one of the few good things about that game.

If someone will get me a good shot of Bandit, I'll draw their mutant kids. big_smile

I actually like Bandit/Ember. It's nice to see more interspecies couples out there and Spyro really didn't like her. I'm glad she stopped stalking him and went for someone who was actually interested.

If you upgrade Cynder's powers in DotD, I think one of them does do that. But mind control in games doesn't really work (see "Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves").

OMG, they're all pariahs! Run! big_smile

(The pariah is a dragon with no elemental power and a great many physical problems but who possesses the forbidden power over the mind. She's very crazy. big_smile)

A dragon with no elements is only boring if you think of him as being so. Personally, a think a dragon with no powers is more interesting than one with power. The Guardians, Spyro and Cynder are all pretty stereotypical because of their powers, whereas a simple country/city fighting dragon has a lot more story to tell because he doesn't get to be special.

#13 Re: The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon » Unknown Dragon Helping Spyro and the Guardians. » Mar 12, 2009 2:45 AM

Razz

Actually, the information given in ANB and TEN really does support the idea that only Guardians and those meant to be Guardians when they grow up are elemental.

#14 Re: The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon » Unknown Dragon Helping Spyro and the Guardians. » Mar 12, 2009 2:20 AM

Razz

I like the idea that every dragon has an element but only a few can master theirs. But I also like the idea that only certain dragons are born with elemental powers. The characteristics of the Warfang dragons show a generic creature with no elemental signifiers (colors, special horn/spike patterns, etc) that makes me think that at least all of those dragons have no elemental powers at all.

#16 Re: Spyro Chat » How old is teenage Spyro in human years? » Mar 12, 2009 12:48 AM

Razz

LoS Sparx is definitely Spyro's age since they were born on the same day. Insomniac Sparx is a little older than Spyro, but we don't know how much. All we know is that, in the game manual, it does say that Sparx talked to Spyro when he was still in the egg.

#17 Re: The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon » Unknown Dragon Helping Spyro and the Guardians. » Mar 12, 2009 12:43 AM

Razz

Given that there were many of these dragons (at least three if not more) and they were all smaller than the Guardians, I would imagine that they have no specific elemental powers. They're just ordinary citizens of Warfang.

#19 Re: Spyro Chat » How old is teenage Spyro in human years? » Mar 11, 2009 6:05 PM

Razz

Traditionally, it's been assumed that Insomniac Spyro is 11. Having worked with a lot of kids that age, I can say that his personality definitely fits that age.

#20 Re: Spyro Chat » How old is teenage Spyro in human years? » Mar 10, 2009 6:35 PM

Razz

Insomniac Spyro never had an official age. According to Oliver Wade, the folks at Insomniac never even thought of his age when they were making the games. Universal commissioned a "bratty dragon kid who might appeal to 10-year-olds". Traditionally, Spyro has been considered to be around 11 or 12 in the first three games, which all take place pretty quickly after each other so he wouldn't age much.

I think of Elora/Zoe in that way. XD Elora/Bianca is interesting, though.

So whose got the crush in Elora/Bianca?

#23 Re: Spyro Chat » How old is teenage Spyro in human years? » Mar 10, 2009 5:32 PM

Unlike Spyro and Cynder, the Guardians had to live through three years of vicious war, so it stands to reason that they'd age.

The Guardians have no official ages, but my guesses are that they're between late 40s and early 60s (with Terrador being the oldest).

#25 Re: Spyro Chat » How old is teenage Spyro in human years? » Mar 08, 2009 2:09 AM

Razz

Actually he didn't. It was entirely due to the change in art style. If Krome had remained the developer on DotD, Spyro and Cynder would have looked the same as they did in ANB and TEN.
